| Skylighting Shown To Increase Retail Sales |
| |
• A 1999 California Board For Energy Efficiency study revealed a statistically compelling connection between skylighting and retail sales
• 108 nearly identical chain stores variables considered and minimized, were studied. Two thirds of these stores had skylights, one third did not. The monthly gross sales per store were averaged over 18 months.
• "Skylights were found to be positively and significantly correlated to higher sales. An average non-skylit store in the chain would likely have 40% higher sales with the addition of skylights, with a probable range between 31% and 49% This [conclusion drawn] with 99% statistical certainty." (1)
• Beyond the spike in gross receipts enjoyed by skylit stores, [ a clothing retailer ] reported a dramatic decrease in clothing returns. Unlike most artificial lighting, clothing viewed under skylight stays true to it's color after leaving the store. The reduction in returns saves manpower, time, and resources.
• The same holds true in any retail operation where colors could "shift" when carried out. Paint, wallpaper, carpeting; hair and nail coloring; jewelry, art supplies; auto body work, and of course, clothing. The comment, "it looked different in the store" indicates a problem.
• What makes skylight different from most conventional lighting. Brightness, color temperature, and a perfect color rendering of 100. |

Air conditioning costs affected by extra heat from a skylight.
